October 15th, 1979. /11. Alderman Ranger .expressed his concern regarding the removal of a large acreage of land from the Agricultural Land Reserve in Langley and the implication thereby created that Agricultural Land Reserves in British Columbia would be slowly eroded. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: WHEREAS the removal of farm land from the Agricultural Land Reserve in Langley has caused a great deal of concern; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam advise the Premier of British Columbia of its very strong objection to the removal of prime farm land in British Columbia from the protection of the Agricultural Land Reserve. Carried. Alderman Keryluk advised a meeting had been held to discuss the Ald. Keryluk re Mtg. on proposed by-law to control piggery operations in Port Coquitlam and to Piggery B/L. receive input from the people involved. Alderman Keryluk further advised the Environmental Protection Committee will be discussing the piggery by-law further next week. Alderman Keryluk advised that one of the items which had been discussed at the meeting on piggeries was that there is a drainage problem in the area preventing access to the land in wet weather. ..Discussion then ensued. Moved ‘by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That the Federal and Provincial Governments, be requested to include drainage improvements in the City's agricultural area, in the dyking program.
