Her birthday will be celebrated across the coun- try, because that day is also Heritage Day and the start of Heritage Week, Feb, 19- 23. To celebrate Beth’s birthday and Heritage Week, the Terrace Regional Museum Society is hosting a huge birthday party for Holtom on Feb. 11 in the arena banquet room, Every- one is invited to come by, say ‘happy birthday’ and en- joy free birthday cake. Girl guides will be serving cof- fee and juice, A full afternoon of enter- tainment is lined up, includ- ing Scottish dancers, a choir from Uplands school, adult choirs and more, MLA Heimut Giesbrecht, and other guests will be presenting Beth with letters of congratulations from the Queen, Prime Minister Jean Chretien, Premier Mike Harcourt, and Mayor Jack Talstra. In keeping with the theme of Heritage Weck, the mu- scum society is inviting the public to bring by their fam- ily heirlooms between 1:30- 4 p.m. Experts will appraise and date them free of charge. The guest of honour, Beth Holtom was born in 1896 in Yugoslavia as Elizabeth Rose, She came to Canada at a young age, when in 1901 she and her family im- Migrated to Indian Head, Saskatchewan, The family homesteaded in Saskatchewan and during the First World War Elizabeth worked in the Union banks in Alberta and Saskatchewan. She married Bert Holtom in 1921 and had a daughter named Marion in 1921 and twin sons, Del and Donald in 1921, The family farmed during the Great Depression, then in 1937 moved to the Okanagan, Her twin boys joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. In 1951 the family moved to Prince Rupert, finally sez- tling in Terrace in 1954, They lived in Thornhill during the 60s and 70s. Beth loved to spend time with her family and in her garden. In 1976 her husband Bert died, and Beth moved into the Willows apartments. Beth was active through the mid-80s, and was in- volved in the United Church guild, the Old Age Pensioners Association, and the Terrace Leprosy Mis- sion, Two years ago Beth moved into Terraceview, where she still lives today, Beth Holtom’s 100th birthday party taxes place Feb. 11 from 1:30-4 pm. at the arena banquet room.
