I gee ne - 16> Terrace Review — Wednesday, August 13, 1986 TERRACE —The city of Terrace had a _ recent busy weekend, Along with the celebration of Riverboat Days, there was the re-uniting of the graduating Class of 1966 from Skeena Junior Senior High School. And what a busy, scarey, ex- citing weekend it was. by Benita Chapdelaine Terrace Contributor The Class of 66 was Terrace’s first largest graduating group, con- sisting of 106 students. Some of the representatives were Lynne (Normandeau) Bowie, Richard Green, Susie Green, Carl Ekman, Roberta (Johnston) Ekmane Jim MacDonald, Heather Piffer, Sandy Loutitt, Dave Piffer and Marg Friendships re a Es Ps nee zl o ve aici 30 locals there. It took awhile to get going, but the same groups of 20 years ago clicked together and the exciting gossip took place. Who had moved where, who married who, and what was everyone now doing. Then the ball began roll- ing and plans and com- mittees were on the go. Of course, one knows what it’s like to get volunteers! The second meeting was Jan. 20 at Diana (Stoba) McKay’s and consisted of seven people — all women, so natural- ly, it was so exciting no one dared leave the room for fear of missing out on any juicy gossip. At the fourth meeting annuals and- pictures were pulled out. About 25 people attended. This was held at the home of Rick and Diane Prest (Turner). There was a couple more meetings held and it would have been nice to have made up a newsletter for all but — maybe next time. Friday, Aug. | was registration from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Happy Gang Centre. All after- noon classmates from in and out of town gathered to register. Name tags along with a bag of - souvenirs were handed out to all. Posters with pictures of those not at- tending were put up on the wall, along with pic- tures of actual par- ticipants. From time to time came the squeals of excitement as recogni- tion set in. QUESSING GAME BEGINS At 8 p.m. Friday night there was the wine and cheese party held at Gor- die and Chris Olson's place. Again, a registra- tion took place for those who couldn’t make it from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m, There was quite a turn out and from rumor, it carried on until 4:30 a.m. It’s amazing to be in a group of about 78 people and try to remember them from 20 years back. It’s also a shock when you find out several people have lived . in Terrace for several years, yet do not recall seeing one another nor recognizing them. Watching the reaction of the people as they ar- rived was neat! As one walked through the door all eyes focused on them, and you could see the guessing game. begin, and the questions of; who’s that, is it? etc. When in doubt, all eyes would lower to the name tag and the reaction of; no — really, or oh right, I remember the face but not the name. Some class-mates real- ly changed; a couple of the scrawny, squeeky- voiced guys turned out to be handsome men. A couple of the hunks turned hunkier (no names mentioned). As for the women, a number kept their age weil, some a bit heavier, a couple just as noisy and a couple just as quiet. It’s a good thing Gordie has a huge home because as tne catching up of gossip from the good old days flowed about, it became quite warm. There was also several. pictures being taken as the groups mingled about. The wine and cheese event was a kindled at good idea. Here, people got to know more about © each other and share a bit of themselves thus rekindling the friend- ships of long ago. Saturday morning, Aug. 2 from 8 a.m, - 11 a.m, there was a pancake breakfast at the Happy Gang Centre. This was undoubtedly the best turn out ever for the Senior Citizens, totalling 200 plus breakfasts being served. Saturday night around 6 p.m. at Skeena High was Happy Hour and final registration. Eighty-four classmates and spouses and guests plus party crashers and teachers attended. continued on page 17 .
