After twelve years of school, they are now prepared to become adult members of the community. . Many of the graduaies will continue with their educations, while others will join the working force of the _ community. Whatever. they choose to do, their decisions will - be beneficial to the communily. A survey was jtaken by members of the Writing class of Caledonia School to find oul the attifudes of the community towards the graduates of 1974. The survey was -concerned mainly with the businesses who employed grade 12.. students parl-lime._ These | employers would be able to give their at- “litudes- because: of. their. per- . sonal experiences with the - students and students in the past. The graduates that working are doing all types af jobs. Many of the stores hire parttime students as cashiers, _ sales-clerks, stockboys, elec. Other iypes of jobs dene. by students ‘include waitressing. logging, working i in gas stations: and various olher jobs.. The jobs th&t students do are basically unskilled and require little training, but a grade.12 student could do almost any job providing he had the training that was required, - The questions asked on’ the survey were very general as the only object of the survey was lo gel the. attitudes’ of the businesses. ©: One of ‘the most asked questions’ now. adays is whather - or- not:.the people graduating are.’ today’ are as Graduation Suppiement rads at work | responsible as ihuse a few years ago. The businesses of Terrace did nol al! agree on this question. Half of the businesses said ‘yes’ that they felt that the praduaies of 1974 were as respunsible as the graduates of previous years. The other half of ihe businesses did not think that’ this years graduates were: past” as responsible as graduates. But they also said that they had been satisfied with the graduates that they had hired. One employer owed this io his own: good laste and geod luck. Perhaps he should consider that other students besides the ones he hired might | possibly be responsible. All of the businesses. said that the grade 12's worked well with other employees of all ages. Most of the businesses ‘in Terrace thought thatthe school system was preparing the student adequately for em- ployment. The student had to ‘be taught basics. One business -suggested that there should be more coun- selling available to the student. More counselling would give the students more of an un- derstanding of the opportunities that there are in the areas which they are inlerested in. We asked the businesses whether they preferred ap- plicants who showed promise af working up and their jobs.
