THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ‘ MEMORANDUM TO Mayor & Council DATE: July 12, 1991 FROM: _ C.F. (Kip) Gaudry, P. Eng. Deputy City Engineer SUBJECT: Location of Recycling Transfer Station ‘ ‘ Recommendation: That the City construct the Recycling Transfer Station on the southeast corner of 1675 Broadway Street. Background & Comments: The City purchased the land at 1733 Broadway Street for a new Firehall. The City also purchased the land at 1675 Broadway for a new Public Works Yard. The owners of 1675 Broadway were allowed to remain on the land for one year after the date of purchase and the. City agreed not to disrupt the land or their living conditions. The transfer station site for the recycling program was therefore put on 1733 Broadway Street. elsewhere on the two properties on Broadway Street. By sheer coincidence we discovered that the owners of 1675 Broadway Street, Mr. and Mrs. Richunond, had recently purchased property in Maple Ridge and were intending to move much sooner than originally expected. Early indications were that they would be out by September or October. Alderman Michael Wright and Kip Gaudry met with Mr. and Mrs. Richmond on July 9, 1991 and discussed the possibility of locating the new transfer station on the southeast comer of their lot. The Richmonds committed themselves without reservations to allowing us immediate access to our land and agreed with the proposed installation site for the transfer station. The agreement with Mr. and Mrs. Richmond will be confirmed in writing. The Engineering Department was asked to have one last major look at siting the transfer station Because of the large drainage ditch on the westside of Broadway Street, the site will require a bridge access. The bridge currently serving the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Richmond is too weak to support our loaded trucks and therefore, a new bridge will have to be built at this location. The lot immediately south is owned by Mr. Clem Degobbi and has a large bridge already constructed near the southeast comer of 1675 Broadway Street. Mr. Degobbi has agreed: to allow us temporary use of his bridge until we can complete construction ef ours. This will be confirmed in writing with Mr. Degobbi. Cont'd /2...
