THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM : MEMO SBP 2.4 tomy B. Kirk. DATE: September 26, 1990 City Administrator Audit Committee computer Hardware Upgrade (Audit Committee September 19/90) RECOMMENDATION: That Council approve the amount of $130,000 be allocated from the Future Capital Reserve to purchase additional computer hardware. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: In 1987 Council approved the purchase of the present City computer system, since that time we have installed numerous software packages (programs) including: * General ledger ° Payroll * Job costing ° Accounts payable * Business licenses Property tax * Building permits * Word processing * Voters system * Human resources ¢ Purchasing system * Inventory system * Recreation registration * Facility booking We are now in need of some additional computer equipment (hardware) the proposed addition includes: Disk drives $30,100 the purchase of 2 one gigabyte disk drives, and trade-in of a single 454 megabyte disk drive, for the additional storage of information. This is required for two reasons, firstly because of the software now operating additional storage capacity is required for reasons outlined in the attached WANG evaluation of the system which recommends the addition of one gigabyte of storage. The other reason for this request is that the GST will result in an enormous increase in the volume of transactions, for example a simple invoice for $100 may be charged only to a single account, with the GST there will be at least be two transactions generated, the first to the account and the second to the rebate or tax credit account.
