Coquitlam Fine Arts Council — 166 KING EDWARD STREET, COQUITLAM, 0.C. V3K 4T2 1980 O09 02 es os — COUNCIL The Mayor of Port Coquitlam 2272 McAllister . SEP 15 1980 Port Coquitlam, BC Dear Sir: The members of the Coquitlam Fine Arts Council have requested that I inform you of the existence and function of the Council and to ask for liaison with the four municipalities in School District #43. The Council represents various fine arts groups in this district and is dedicated to promoting, encouraging and bringing some focus to fine arts. In the past the group has organized a number of fine arts festivals and was instrumental in establishing Place des Arts in Coquitlam. Another project for the group has been the annual distribution of the provincial Fine Arts grants to organized art groups in our community. It is our plan to give more visibility to the arts in District #43 and one of our projects for next year is the organization and presentation of a Fine Arts Festival in May 1981. This would include a display of music, art and dancing from many of the fine arts groups and individuals in this area. With the increase in leisure time pursuits there is an obvious growing interest in the fine arts and now is the time for our communities to consider placing more importance on fine arts in their recreation programs. sd We believe it is important that the Recreation Departments, the Municipal Councils, and the Fine Arts Council form a liaison to bring more emphasis and coordination to fine arts in our communities. With this in mind we are requesting that the recreation departments and the municipal councils appoint a representative who could act as liaison person in the area of fine arts. We would like to invite this person to attend a Fine Arts Council meeting in the fall in order to become familiar with,. and to give input to, the organization. We trust this request will be discussed as soon as convenient, and we hope to hear from you scon. Sincerely yours, ve , w . : helt say ith Gloria Az2i, president
