None were accepted, therefore funding was provided by Coguitlea and Port Coquitlam on an equal cost-sharing basis. Six university stuzents were hired from May 1 to Aug 32 (4 conths) at a contract Salary of $825/month plus $17S/month for vehicle expenses: $825 x 4 x 6 = $39,e090 S178 x 4x 6 . 4,200 $24,000 All students completed a Ministry of Environnent course May 3-5 and passed the certification exan in Mosquito Abatenent. An serial survey was done on May 19 to taze color and infrared photegraphs of breeding sites and to fasilfarize the stall with their respective sarpling areas in Coquitlan and Fort Coquitlaa. All breeding sites were monitored throvgheut the seasen: larvicides were applied as necessary. This constant surve! lance and rapid treatment of productive breeding sites maintained Sesquito populations at a low level. A totel of ten compiaints were received during the surmer. All were investigated by the staff; none required further treatzeat. No adulticidirg was dove in the 1973 season. Following a brush fire on the nain duck rarsh at Minsekhada Fara which destroyed much of the vegetative cover, extrerely high nu-bers of larvae were found throughout the carsh. Beak Conaultants utd. were notified and an aerial appiicaticn of Abate was dene by Cenair Aviation Ltd. on June 20. The Fraser end Pitt Rivers remained below flocd levels all season. This virtually eliminated populations of flocdsater Pasqsitees which commonly breed in marshes and fields behind dikes. nz pericds of warm, Cry weather caused many neun-permanent treedin. sites to dry up, further reducing potential sosquito populations.
