Thompson, Co-Chairman J.E. Yip, P. Eng., Deputy City Engineer Delegations: Mr, Rich Chase - Biowaste Management Inc. Mr. Lindsay Jones - Nature Trust CONFIRMATION OF MINIJI ES The Minutes of the Environmental Protection Committee Meeting held on Wednesday, February 17, 1993 were considered, read and adopted. ITE~M. BIOWA %BE MANAGEMENT LTD. In attendance including Committee Members: Igor Zahynacz Anne Pynenburg Chief J. Baillie Deputy Chief G. Routley Mr. Rick Chase, P. Eng., President of Biowaste Management Ltd. presented a short video on their facility in Aldergrove. Following the presentation there was a question and answer period. Mr. Chase advised that they are planning to expand their windrow composting area by asphalting approximately 5 acres and installing the necessary leachate and containment facilities. They anticipate the work will be done this year. At present they do not have the facilities to handle additional green composting material. Mr. Chase invited anyone who was interested to tour their facilities. Mr. Chase left the meeting at 9:30 a.m. and the Committee continued its meeting in the office of the Deputy Engineer. ITElvl IIL DOUGLAS ISLAND LINDSAY JONES — Mr. Lindsay Jones of Nature Tmst presented an update on the proposed market value appraisal for Douglas Island. Mr. Jones noted that he is prepared to recomrr end Cumberland Appraisers to carry out this work at an estimated cost of between $ 8,000.00 and $ 10,000.00. However, he does not wish to proceed until there is confirmation the vendor is interested in selling. Pie In addition, he understands there maybe other interested parties wishing to purchase the property. In this case there would be no merit in having an appraisal done until other interested parties have completed their review. Mr. Jones wIII be forwarding a letter to the Committee outlining the status .u this matter. He will also be recommendiug that the city consider increasing their contribution for the appraisal. This recotnruendation, is to forwarded to the City 's Finance and Inter-govermental Committee for consideration. Councillor Thompson had a previous appointment and therefore the meeting adjourned at 10:30 a.m. Remauuug items tabled until next meeting.
