Bill C-10, passed by the House of Commons last year, is now before a Senate committee, Its provisions for the creation of marine parks has Burton and others worried that it will block poten- tial oil and gas offshore exploration, “Many municipalities in my riding rely heavily on resource development, and as such they are concerned about clause 13 of the bill which out- laws any exploration or development of offshore oil and gas within these marine parks,” said Burton. He’s convinced there is room for flexibility. “I think we have to see what’s out there first and then determine if it can be done in an environ- mentally safe and economic manner,” said Burton. The Senate energy, environment and natural re- Sources committee has yet to set an exact sche- dule of how it will treat the bill. MAN FOUND BURIED ALIVE IN MATTRESS AVALANCHE — LIVES 10 TELL!
