AT THE NET: Terrace forward Brian Todd takes control of the puck in his awn zone during a Friday, Dec, 9 practice game against a Midget house team. In net for the Bantams is Cory Duben; whose work in net against Kitimat earlier this month put the Bantam “B" team on the roster for the Northern'8.C. Winter Games in Fort St. John later this winter. Bantam “B” team on road to Winter Games By KEVIN FLETCHER TERRACE BANTAM B's ‘went into Kitimat on Satur- day Dec. 4 and took the first two games of a best of three series, winning their right Lo attend ‘the Northern B.C. Winter Games. The first game was a very tight-checking game with both teams feeling each other out for the first two periods. Terrace took the lead with a goal at-the 12:36 mark on-a goal by Tyler Sheasby, with assists by John Hidber and Brian Bandstra, Kitimat responded at the 2:46 mark with a goal from J. Day and J. Medieros. The period ended in a one-all tie. The only goal in the sec- ond period came from Tylex Sheasby with assists to Brian Todd and John Hid- ber, Kitimat had great scor- ing chances in the second period and probably would. have gone ahead if it wasn't for excellent saves by goal- tender, Cory Duben. One particular game saver, if you can have one in the second period, had Duben stack the pads and come up with a huge glove save. Terrace had a 2-1 lead after two periods. Terrace came out flying in the third period and shut down Kitimat's offense. Good defensive coverage and hustle was the. key. John Hidber tallied with a goal and Tyler Sheasby got - the assist, capping off a great game by the line of center Brian Todd and. his. . wingers John Hidber. and Tyler Sheasby. Trevor Jamieson scored the final goal on a excellent individual effort, which saw him go around a checker and split the defense for Terrace’s fourth goal. Bren- dan Hargrove drew the lone assist. The second game saw a goaltending change with Dan Erickson getting the start. While he did not see much rubber he made key saves that gave his team the confidence they needed. The Sheasby, Hidber and Todd line picked up where they left off, but this win was a total team effort of- fensively and defensively. Brad Carson started the game with Terrace's first goal assisted by Trevor Ja- mieson. Sheasby got the next goal with assists to Todd and Hidber. Thirty seconds. later, Christian Gough scored with an assist by Skylar Sandhals. Hidber finished off the second per- iod with an assist from Sheasby, Hidber also started the second with an assist to Sheasby.- Then, Sheasby scored -again from Hidber and Hargrove. Mike Scar- borough, the team's conver- ted defenseman and captain wanted in on the action, and went end to-end for-a nice goal with Gough gelling the helper, ‘Sandhals got the final two goals of the game with Gough assisting on the first and second-and David Red-- ‘path assisting on the ‘sec- ond. The team then lost it's shut-out with about four and half. minutes left: in the game on a Kitimat power- play. After a tough outing in Houston at a single A Ban- tam tournament where they lost all three games, the team has come together ni- cely. and seems to have bought into the role they will play on the team. They also played fairly well-disciplined hockey, and managed to stay out of the penalty box. This style of. piay should make the team successful in Fort St John. Ail in all everyone on the team put ina good effort. It was a job well done, guys. Kevin Fletcher co-coa- ches the Bantam “B” team with Scott Mulder, John Bandstra and Steve Scott.
