From page Bi0 Luella White to become nurses, Luella was the first Terrace woman to graduate as a nurse and ‘was apparently a good one. Her family says she was very proud to be one of the first gradu: -ates from the Prince Rupert Gen- . eral Hospital's school of nursing jm 1924, After graduating she nursed at the Prince Rupert hospital and later at the old Red Cross Hospi- tal in Terrace. It is'said that Luclla was a very kind and conscientious nurse. On September 30, 1925 Luella married Elwood Brooks in Ter- race. They had resided in Terrace be- fore retiring to Vancouver Island where they lived in Lantzviile and Victoria. From ‘Victoria they moved to White Rock. After Elwood’s death in 1984 Luella moved to the Sunnyside Manor in White Rock where she was a resident for the past several years, She is fondly remembered by her brothers and sisters as being a very loving and joyful sister and will be greatly missed by them. ‘Luella, along with her sisters “Belle and Dorothy and brother Floyd, all wrote beautiful poems of their love and fond remem- _brance for the Skeena Valley which they loved very much. Belic has now published two books: Happy Times in Rhyme and They Came West. ‘Floyd recently published My Valley Yesteryears. This September, Belle travelled from Calgary to White Rock to visit her daughter Dorothy and _ was able to celebrate Belle’s 88th birthday with her sister Luella. They played an old time waltz on the old phonograph and they danced around. the room and laughed together, But a few days later Luella un- fortunately had a fall and broke her hip. The doctor operated but Luella did not have enough strength to pull through the operation. = Luella Catherine Brooks passed. away at the age of 93 years, Aileen Frank from Terrace, Luella’s sister-in-law, flew down to White Rock and made fimeral arangements with help from daughter Patricia White and _ Belle’s daughter Dorothy. They arranged for Luella’s body to be retumed to Terrace -and buried at the old Kitsum- kalum cemetery alongside her husband Elwood, mother and fa- ther, and brothers Ivan and Jack. Elfa is survived by her brother Floyd Frank and his wife Aileen, sister Dorothy Smith and husband Earl, sister Mildred Woods and sister Belle Watt of Calgary, along with many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at the Knox United Church in Ter- race on October 11, 1994 with Reverend Michael Hare of- ficiating and organist Rusty - Ljungh. ‘The service included two hymns: There is a Green Hill Far Away and God Sees the Little Sparrows Fall, ‘The internment took place at the old Kitsumkalum cemetery with pallbearers Brock Norbig, Jimmy McKenzie, Wayne Jones, Larry Tallon, Robert Woods and Norman Frank. A reception was held at the Knox United Church Hall with catering by the United Church Ladies.
