Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Yellow Curbs at Crosswalks - Works and Services Committee, July 3rd, 1984 RECOMMENDATION: That the Traffie Byiaw be amended to prohibit the stopping of vehicles within 6 meters of the approach side of any crosswalk within the City. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: This request was dealt with by Council! at a previous _ meeting and Council referred it back to the Committee to determine the effect on the parking In the downtown area. as The Committee has checked the downtown crosswalks and can confirm that..there would be no parking spaces lost in the “downtown by this Bylaw amendment. All downtown crosswalks already have the yellow curb within.at teast 6 meters of the approach side of the crosswalk. This yellow curb ts mainty there to permit vehicles to turn right at intersections but also has the effect of ' protecting visibitity at the crosswalk. The only crosswalks that ‘would be affected by this amendment +o the Bylaw would be those in “outlying areas near schools where we currently do not have yellow curbs. Foe.
