By now the Thanksgiving pie has been eaten and ‘‘Jackie”’ did his job last night. But let’s | not retire the old pumpkin just yet.. The late afternoon sun shining through | the glass and steel roof accented ‘the scarlet and black silk robes of the 24 members of the Supreme Court and their four . nominees as they filed onto the stage and took their séats facing an audience .of relatives, col- leagues and friends. Chief Justice Esson led the welcome to the four new Justices ~— Bruce Harvey, Ronald Holmes, Peter Fraser and Bruce McColl. Burn buggy, burn The bandshell in George Little Memorial Park was slightly damaged on a recent night when vandals set fire to an ‘Unoc- cupied baby carriage inside it at about 7:30 p.m. An alert passer- by ran into the library to tell librarian Gillian Campbell that “something’s wrong in the | bandshell’’. Campbell phoned the RCMP, who attended the scene im- mediately and doused the flames with two buckets of water. What. may have seemed like a joke at the time could have. resulted in serious ‘damage to community property. This inci- dent demonstrates how residents can protect their neighborhood . against vandalism by simply keeping an eye on what's hap- pening and reporting any suspicious activities to police. During the introduction for each new member, Justice Mc- Coll was commended. for his work with the Law Society Council and in ‘the deinstitu- # tionalization of the handicapped as well as his success with labor . legislation and arbitration. In response, Justice McColl opened his address. by saying that he hoped. he would have as much fun in this new stage of his career as he has had so far in the law profession. He paid tribute to his friends and colleagues who had inspired and helped him during the pre- ceding years, and to his wife, Blizabeth, whom he married in 1963, and to his children, Innis, | Allistair and Fiona. He regretted. particularly the early decease of his parents, A.J. (Bud) and Loreen McColl, that they could not be present. (The McColls, Senior, are re- membered in Terrace notable | ‘for their work with the Terrace Little Theatre. The McColl Playhouse. on Kalum Street is | named in their honor.) .
