Alex Hamilion photo ANN PELTIER, co-ordinator of The Family Place, awaits word from the provincial government on whether or not the childcare information and as- sistance centre will get money for operations this year, No news is good news IT’S BUSINESS as usual at The Family Place while workers await the provincial govemment’s decision on whether or not to close the child care resource centre, The Family Place is a four-year pilot Project created in 1995 by the provincial and federal governments and its budget mus out the end of the month, ‘The purpose of the centre is to provide quality accessible childcare, workshaps and training programs for parents and childcare workers, and to have a govern- ment employee at the centre to provide childcare subsidies. Co-ordinator Ann Peltier said the pro- ject is a success. From April 1997 to March 1998, 5,060 people came in search Peltier said, ‘We're doing month to month planning,”? Tedd Howard, the regional executive director for the Ministry of Children and Families, said The Family Place must wait for the provincial budget to come down. ““We are really concerned that we don’t destabilize this program,’’ Howard said.
