footlong sandwich, belleved
to be the longest ever
assembled in the world, was
devoured by more than 1,000
hungry people at Alkl Beach
during the holiday weekend,

Dan Waters, proprietor of
Driftwood Dan's Sandwich
Shopin West Seattle,
organized the 40 volunteers
who slathered 20 gallons of
mayonnaise on 214 loaves of
end-to-end french bread and
plied on mass quantities of
cheese, salami, bologna,

State ferries crossing Puget
Sound in the background,
was planned to beat a 400-
foot, 6 34-inch -sandwich
constructed four years ago in
Boise, Idaho, Waters sald.

The sandwich was sliced
into foot-long sections and
given to the multitudes who
dropped donations into an
empty mayonnaise jar. The

Providence Medical Centre
which helped arrange the
