THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO: istrator APR 114 FROM: Chong, P. Eng., ity Enginee- SUBJECT: Parking Restrictions on Pitt River Road South of Routley (Public Works Committee Meeting April 5, 1988) Recommendation: That the "No Parking At Anytime" restrictions on the east side of Pitt River Road be extended southward to a point 35 m south of Routley Avenue and that the City Clerk be instructed to initiate steps to amend the Traffic Regulations Bylaw No. 1117 to incorporate this new parking restriction. Backaround and Comments: A recent request (see attached letter) was referred to the Public Works/Tratftic Committee to impose parking restrictions on both sides of Pitt River Road from McLean Avenue to Citadel Drive. The reason given for this request was that the complainant found this section of road to be too narrow. lr considering this request the Committee noted that there already exists parking restrictions on the east side of Pitt River Road from Langan to Routley. While it is true that some segments .of This road are narrower than the {ideal width for arterial roads the existing road width does provide adequate clearance to accommodate legally parked and mobile vehicles. lf parking restrictions are to be imposed on the west side as well, local residents will not have adequate on-street parking nearby. For this reason and the fact that it is not economically feasible to widen this section of Pitt River Road at this time the Committee rejected this request. During the discussions however, Corporal Shumborski of the ReC.M.~P. Traffic Division suggested that the parking restrictions on the east side of Pitt River Road should be extended southward for a distance oat 35 m south of Routley. The reason for this is that this side of the road js on the inside of a relatively sharp curve. Vehicles parked along this side of the road will severely block the line of sight for motorists. The Committee supports Corporal Shumborski's suggestion. Hence, the recommendation is placed before Council. City Engineer TMC: jth attacnments 39 MAIN. T-Apr/88(13)
