Freeman, City Clerk, The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlan, 2272 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam, 3, c, Dear Mr. Freeman: At its quarterly meeting in Abbotsford on April 25: the Board of Management discussed the possible construction of a new headquarters building. It was agreed, however, that Planning of the facility be deferred until some definite indication was received from the five western municipslities as to their intentiuns of continuing ag members of the regional library systen. This consideration would of course be a factor in estimating the size of the proposed new headquarters building, The question hag relevance to the Valley municipalities within the Greater Vancouver Rezinnal District and at present members of the Fraser Valley library system. These are velta, Fort Coquitia::, Richrond, Surrey and “hite Rock. The options in exch case apprar ta be (a) to continue with the eysten or (b) to withdraw, escablisn aq cenicipal litrary .board and become a menber of the Greater Vancouver Library Council under the GYRD. In the case of ‘hite Rock this could meen that its library would cone under a Surrey board and in Port Coquitlam's case it has been sugeested that the liorary would be a branch (with Fort Hoody) of a Coquitlam public library under cre board. The Board of Management has passed a rotion calling for each of the five above-named western municipalities to decide within a. period of two months what it intends to do. It is hoped that when the replieg are received the Soard will be in a better position to rlan for a new head- quarters building, Would you please taxe this matter up with Counci] and give me its views as soon as you can.
