The club took top spot overall and — individual swimmers blew away seven pool records, winning a number of medals, “This was a very impor- lant meet for us,”’. says coach Mike Carlyle. ‘‘It’s like a ‘prep meet for the provincials and it was very successful.” One of those successes was Jenine Barton, who scored 100 per cent best limes and took gold im ber age group. Barton is already ranked in the top 19 in the country for the 200 fly and she just keeps improving. Thomas Demetzer also had 100 per cent best limes and finished a close second in his age group. Plus, he picked up a pool record of his own in the 200 back — beating the previous record by two seconds, Dylan Evans also eamed a pool record, Unfortunately, so did two other swimmers in his heat, but he still had excellent swims and a num- ber of medals. Rookie swimmer Jessica Lapointe is already scoring points for the team. She just started in the fall but con- tinues to improve, boasting 100 per cent best times. Shauna Palahicky also had. | 100 per cent best times and managed to place in her off-. ‘events. He picked up a silver and a bronze, Mat Leclerc, in the 14-15 age group also snagged a bronze, along with a sixth-place finish. John Shulmeister was right behind Leclerc, He fin- ished in seventh and eighth- place in the same age group. Meanwhile, Cortland Sandover-Sly snagged a sil- ver medal in the 12-13 age group, along with a sixth- place finish the following day. And in the same age category, Aaron Gingles fin- ished 11th. Rushton says volunteers helped make the event a success. Of particular note is Jim Wold.
