Victoria looking
for cash takers

THE PROVINCIAL government
wants to give away money, but so
far, not enough people are inter-
ested in taking it,

No, this isn’t a joke. The pro-
vince has earmarked approxima-
ely $70,000 for Terrace
employers who want to hire stu-
dents, and to date only half of that
money has been spent.

‘The Student Summer Works
‘95 program was set up through
the ministry of Skills Training
and Labour to provide job experi-
ence for students, and financial
assistance for employers,

So far the program has provided
19 full time positions in Terrace,
and student administrator Karen
Newcombe says there is enough
money for another 21 or 22 more

positions, _

*‘Our priority is co-op and ap-
prenticeship training programs,
but amy established business can
apply,” says Newcombe.

The program provides money
for both full and part time work
for students, ta a maximum of
four dollars per hour.

Students must be at least 15
years old, and be employed for a
minimum of 30 to a maximum of
90 working days,

The deadline for applications is
June 21, and applies to positions
starting in July and August.

Klinger started work at Gardenland on
May 15 as part of the Students Summer Works '95 program.
She'll be there until the end of August when she returns to the
college to start her second year in business administration.
