B4 Terrace Review — Wednesday, March 28, 1990 Sports editorial | . _A day for Michelle -= can we handle it? ~ What a banner year for our Michelle Hendry! How do we top it? . Well, Kitimat hockey people got together to set up a ‘day’ for homebrew Mark Fitzpatrick, the talented — second-year netminder for the New York Islanders. That celebration is June9. . | So, how about Terrace basketball people and city council getting together to set up a ‘day’ for our Michelle? She already has a trunk full of honors for this season alone, but all this has come from places other than Terrace. - Michelle’s most recent honor came from the Na- tional Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, an American organization to which Simon Fraser teams are the only Canadian-affiliated college squads. Although playing only two games before elimination at ine 16-team ladies’ N.A.I.A. hoop finals at -_ Jackson, Tennessee earlier this month, Michelle’s play earned her an all-American first team berth — a great achievement for the sophomore athlete, who still has two years to go before graduation. * She’s now looking forward to earning a berth on Canada’s national team in the off-season. After that she looks toward 1992’s Barcelona Olympics. Terrace has already heard of her accomplishments several times, but what has her hometown done to show its feelings for the national and international at- tention she has given us? How about a ‘day’ for Michelle Hendry this sum- mer? Is the Terrace sports scene capable of under- taking this job?
