The girls had a relatively easy time and managed to give second-string players lots of floor time. The girls started with a 70-42 win over Kitimat Orcas: They~ led 21-13 at the quarter, 31-26 at the half and 51-34 going into the final 10 minutes. Center Michelle Hendry top- ped the scoring with 20 points, Lisa Dams had 16 and Jann- Marie Wilson 15. For Kitimat it was Cheryl Kinton with 19, Against Prince Rupert Rain- birds, Kermodes took a 30-24 Skiers pass at Smithers During the week of Dec. 7 Ski Smithers hosted two Level 1 ski instructors courses. Residents of Smithers, Burns Lake, Hazelton, Terrace, and Kitimat took part. Dean Stone, a Level IV instructor from Whistler Mountain, came to teach the courses, The successful candidates are: Andy de Boer, Tom Blair, Dave Barclay, Rodney Boston, Mar- sha Cater, David Cater, Glen Curley, Stephen Hidber, Shawn Lund, Terry Walker, Tim McLellan, Gerry Pinkerton, Jeremy Taylor, Jody Inovye, Michelle Johnson, Kevin Mc- Chesney, Darlene Munroe, Kristena Wyatt, Tim Johnson, and Rick Stevens. The battle came from Kitimat’s Joe Almeida, who scored 29 points before fouling © out in the second half. Kermodes held a slight 25-23 margin at quarter time. This was - increased to 46-37 at the half and 66:54" at the three-quarter“ f- ~~ mark. : Harpel Manhas and Dave Hogg paced Kermodes with 21 and 20 points respectively. Rupert’s Rainmakers were ex- pected to give Kermodes a stiff battle as well. But the Caledonia lads held off the coast boys 58-45 in a defensive display. Kermodes were ahead 35-23 at the half. Hogg with 18 and Aaron Davis with 16 led the way for us. Joe Woods-had 15 for Rain- makers. _ Rainmakers lost coach Mel - Bishop in the last quarter when he argued too strenuously with game officials and got the thumb. - The surprise. game of the series was the Rebels — Rain- makers clash. Rainmakers just couldn’t hold off Joe Almeida as the B.C. all-star poured in 43 points to lead Rebels to a 76-55 win. . Rebels led 28-22 at the quarter, 37-29 at the half and 61-41 at three-quarter time. Marty Dudoward with 14 and Mark Stubbert with 13 paced Rainmakers’ scoring. The best comeback of the six- game series was Rainbirds’ ef- | forts against Orcas. The Birds were down 28-17 at the half, but roared back to score a 45-37 vic- ‘ tory. . .
