AS - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, September 14, 1994 Safety top priority Dear Sir: ~ Further to an article in the Aug. 17 edition of your paper, I would like to clarify some points on the government's policy on emcr- ‘gency response. services at air- ports. As a member state of the Inter- national Civil Aviation Organiza- tion (ICAO), Canada fully sup- ports ICAQ’s recommended prac- tices for emergency response ser- vices and uses them as the basis for Canadian criteria. This in- ‘cludes: using the size and fre- quency of aircraft used by sched- uled passenger carriers to determine the level of service. At the Terrace airport, new technology will allow the sate level of service to be provided more efficiently. A new truck op- erated’ by one firefighter will be - capable of pumping the required amount of foam that it currently ‘takes two trucks with two firefighters to deliver. The two trucks and two firefighters will continue to provide. the service uitil the new truck is delivered. CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE TERRACE STANDAR The Mail Bag At the smaller, less busy airport at Smithers, the emergency response plan identifies the agen- cles that would respond in the event of an emergency. There are a number of agencics that are called upon the respond, ¢.g. air- line personnel, ambulance, police and fire services. These services do not have to be resident at the airport in order to provide quick and adequate response, ; Across the country there are more than 500 certified airports, not owned or operated by Trans- port Canada, which have operated and continue to operate safely un- der precisely this same require- ment. I want to assure your readers that Transport Canada will con- tinue to ensure the provision of ‘Yes’ to festival Dear Sir: . Thanks to the Terrace Women’s Resource Centre for organizing the 1994 Children’s Festival. Par- ticular thanks to thank Filomena Swanson and Candace Weller. I must say I rather enjoyed myself. As the child in me watched children 40 years younger than myself, I was refreshed. Each child is unique, special with their own set of talents, fears, and expectations. As 1994 has been declared The International Year of the Family, let all of us lift up our families and bless them. * There is indeed no self-made individual. We all had a mother and father, We have ali had people who have given to us. May we express our thanks, We have all had people who ‘have violated us. May we forgive. Is there nota litter law in Terrace? It looked like a lesson on having fun but not to be responsible for any civic pride in keeping the city clean. Keep Terrace clean, use a trash tray.
