THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM 0 1 ‘ MEMORANDUM JAN 2 2 1979 TO; Mayor and Council ; January 15th, 1979 FROM: I.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer Re: B.C. Hydro Route Extensions Council expressed some interest in finding out the procedure for obtaining a route extension or relocation from B.C. Hydro. Under B.C. Hydro's present organization, it would be necessary for Council to make an application to Mr. Vie Sharman, Manager of Planning and Evaluation. The application should include a justification and any supporting material available. Upon receiving the request, B.C. Hydro would conduct their own evaluation of the proposed route including potential ridership and additional operating costs. As you know, the Urban Transit Authority is to take over operation of the Transit System in April. In concluding an operating agreement with the UTA, the GVRD would have to attach route schedules for all routes. For this purpose, I attended a workshop meeting on January 12th, 1979 at which the GVRD staff and B.C. Hydro requested suggestions for short-term bus improvements. I pointed out some of the concerns which the people had expressed in the written submissions. Coquitlam requested service to the new shopping centre. The suggestion was made that the present circuitous Austin route from the Lougheed Mall to Port Coquitlam be rerouted to the new shopping centre and that it be replaced with a new direct route between Port Coquitlam and the Lougheed Mall to serve commutors. This suggestion is to be considered again on January 25th, 1979. Therefore, if Council wishes to comment on this proposed change, I would be able to convey the comments to this meeting. F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Fngineer.
