Dear Sirs;

This is e letter protesting the establishment of an institutional,
hon-conforming type home at I94¢ Grant Ave.

This letter is supported by the accompanying petition of which I
am the chief petitioner.

MY OBJECTIONS ARE;

It has been indicated thet there will be more than two or three
hard to house people in this residence. This would detyvact from the
family setting of young families on small lots, which comprise much
of this area. In fact it appears that a commercial enterpri se ijis ‘being
foisted upon us and the mein goal being that of financial gain for
the licence applicents. I would point out that many people indicate
on the petition that there is no objection to e family type arrange-
ment of two or three ex-Riverview residents, providing thet they are
properly supervised. Emphasis is also placed on them haveing "no:
history of violence or sexual misbehaviour".

I thank Mr. Bollock, Mayor Campbell and Members of Council for
sending the information letter of January 19, 1979 as I understand
it is not a requirement for residents to be notified in this manner
of pending licence applications. HOWDVER: I would sugsest that there
is a proper and responsible way for licence applicants and supporting
agencies, in this case The Simon Fraser Health Unit, to approach the
Community in thse situations. It should be incumbent upon them, the
applicents and the supportag agency, to canvas and petibion people living
in the general proximity, es to the acceptability of such a fecilisy.
THE OMUS SHOULD KOT BE ON THE PROPERTY OWNERS AD, OR RESIDENTS OF
THE AREA TO SHOW CAUSE WHY IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

In other words, City Hall is encouraging these applicants to be
improper and irresponsible ty accepting these licence applicetions
prior to this canvas end petition taking place.
