JUN 3-1 TO: Members of Council DATE: May 29, 1974 FROM: Mayor Campbell Regional District Meeting of May 29, 1974 Mr. Don Ray of the Association of Concerned Citizens spoke re: schools and the Board will be approaching the Government on this issue. I would like to point out that I spoke directly to the Premier and the Honorable Nicolson on this same subject two weeks ago. Hopefully, housing and education will at least form a liaison with each other. Community Resources Act. It was left up to Alderman Rankin of Vancouver to write to the Kootenay area about their fears of this Act. It appears that these new resources committees are not working well and the great fear is that it is really another form of government with powers to spend a lot of public funds. A member of the Citizens Committee gave his report on the Policy Committee. He seems to think that we, as elected officials, are against citizen partic- ipation and I am certainly in disagreement with him. Alderman Emmott of Burnaby brought up, what I thought was, an excellent point. He said that if a Council does not agree with the views of a group they then say that they have been ignored. Again, this is not true as all members of the Council take into con~ sideration all information before making a decision, May 8th, 1974 Seminar. (Please see atiached) The Coquitlam Hospital Board approved an interim planning budget on January 9th, 1974 of $28,500. for the Coquitlam Hospital. They just approved today an additional $24,000.00. The following resolution was adopted by the Board for the disposal of waste: "That the Commissioner of the Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District be directed and is hereby authorized to proceed with the necessary immediate arrangements to provide a solid waste disposal, for the municipalities of Burnaby, New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, and Coquitlam, and that if found necessary, ex- propriation proceedings be undertaken to acquire the necessary rights for dis- posing of solid waste from these four municipalities."
