# Christmas serenade

STUDENTS FROM grades one to three at E.T, Kenney serenaded shoppers at the Skeena Mall last week.
Choir leader Ann Kebernik thought a rehearsal at the mail would be a good preparation for the children’ 8
Christmas concert tomorrow at the R.E.M. Lee from 10-11 a.m.

No good reason
to drink and drive

TERRACE DRIVERS are being asked once again this
holiday season to tie a red ribbon on their car’s antennae to
show their support for not drinking arid driving,

The red ribbons are available at local stores and gas sta-
tions until January 3.

To remind people of the consequences of drinking anid
driving, drug and alcohol counsellor Greg McQuarrie for-
warded this anonymous poem to the Terrace Standard for
our readers, _

“Drinking and Driving -

T'was the night before Christmas, and I was up late. .
My daughter still hadn’ 't come home from her date’

When out of the night came a shaitering scream’:

I jumped up with fright, spilled my coffee and ci oe

Tran to the window, as fast as I could’ bre
Seeing a car out in front with a body on the hood -

I reached for my blanket, not wasting any ‘time
T ran out the door, when I heard a faint whine

Tran to her side, and brushed back her long hair:
Her face was so pale, her eyes just a stare.

I knew in an instant, she had already died -
I felt my heart break, as I cried and I cried.

I stood up to sec if the driver was okay
He gol out of his car, and [ noticed his sway

His eyes were so red, and his vision ‘was blir
He said he was sorry, with his vaice very slurred an,

He came back from the bar, bringing i ina holiday chicer - . :

It was obvious to me Tié had too many beers -

Just twenly-five cents, and a ane minute call ;
A taxi would have come, saving hell from ws ail

But he was too careless, not using his head
And now in my arms, my poor daughter lay dead ©.”

So to those of yon, who ‘Drink and Drive’ ce:
The consequences are too dear — let us all survive. vo

THE TERRACE UNIT of the Canadian Cancer
Society recently raffled off a handmade quilt,
donated by the Skeena Valley Quilters. The win-
ner was Candy Smith of Terrace,

will be used in the physiotherapy department at
