On Tuesday last the three’ sur-
viving bank robbers were given
their preliminary hearing before
the magistrate. ~The witnesses
that gave evidence at the in-

quests'were placed on the stand) —

again and told practically the
same stories as at the inquests.
Crown Prosecutor W. EB. Fisher,
Prinee Rupert, and Inspector of

Police, Walter Owen conducted

the case for the crown and put
the evidence before the bench'in
good shape. The prisoners ‘had
no legal adviser.

Ali three pleaded guilty and
elected to be tried summarily by
the county judge.

' In their plea two of them asked
‘for clemency on the grounds that
they had been forced into the af-
fair. They: claimed that they
had arrived from the old country
about fifteen months ago and in
Vancouver met the other men
who induced them to join in the
robbery. ‘They first intended to
