THANKS EVERYONE — WE RAISED $19,755 Gala affair concludes PT drive Five hundred people attended the Pacific Tribune’s smor- gasbord dinner to celebrate the, conclusion of this year’s financial drive, and many more arrived later to enjoy the dance in Hastings Auditorium last week. Final results showed that the paper’s supporters raised $19,755 in cash and also collected $2,060 in subscriptions during the course of the drive—an achievement sur- passed only once before in the paper’s history. Last year the cash figure was $18,257 and the sub total $2,202. This year there were more Press Builders than ever before, 358 people who raised over $25 (34 of them raised $50 to join a new category called Premier Press Builders). Seated at the head table were many of the 34 Honor Press Builders who had raised $100 or more. Top HPB this year, as in many previous drives, was Bill Hrehrechuk, who turned in $380. Deserving special mention were clubs like Advance, Grand- view, Victory Square, Kitsilano, Strathcona, West End, Capitol Hill, South Burnaby, Vancouver Heights and others. Vancouver Island clubs, led by Walter Tickson, also did an out- standing job. Clubs deserving special mention include Camp- bell River, Duncan,* Lake Cowi- chan, Nanaimo and Parksville. Victoria, with a very large target to shoot at, did a good job as well. Some Interior centres failed to get into the campaign with a swing early enough, and although they finished strongly, were un- able to meet their quotas. * * x Successful conclusion of the drive may make it possible for the Pacific Tribune to increase its size to 16 pages in the near future. Plans are underway to improve the content of the paper through more live coverage of labor, sports and general news, plus more features. A year-round drive for new readers is also planned, with tours by business manager Rita Whyte into the interior and north country this summer. “No sum- mer doldrums in the battle for subs,” is our slogan for the com- ing months. The political climate today makes it realistic to envisage a consistent growth in circulation during the next year. Good organization and hard work on the part of our press clubs can ensure that these hopes become realities.
