~2- During our centennial, the B.C. Summer Games wil] run from July 25-28, and the B.C. Seniors Games from September 4-7. These two events will bring 15,000 games participants to our community along with thousands of additonal visitors. Numerous other Centennial events are planned including the Festival duBois and the Coquitlam Children's Festival. We learned during Expo 86 that tourists will return to communities that are well prepared in providing information regarding accomodation, transportation, amenities, etc. The benefit of this activity is of significant economic value to the province and to the community. Since the Ministries of Tourism and Advanced Education are co-operatively involved in the process leading to grant approvals, and since grants are based on the number of counsellor positions approved, I am asking that your Ministry seriously consider the unique nature of the Coquitlam Chamber of Commerce's application for 1991 in allocating financial resources. Thousands of Coquitlam citizens have volunteered time and energy to ensure that our Centennial is a memorable one. They, along with our hard working Chamber will be encouraged by your Ministry's appropriate support.
