\ CONFIDENTIAL a ELAL POLICING REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY 19 81 Se nanhh eS SAS TO THE MAYOR OF port COQUITLAM ; Attached is the monthly report from the Co-Ordinator of Community Resources, At the beginning of January we implemented a Burglary Section, to combat the rising problem of Breaking & Entering. This Section is made up of 4 police members, one from each of ‘the 3 zones and one from our Detective Branch. There were two robberies in January, one at Kern's Esso On January 9th and an attempted robbery at the Golden Ears Hotel on January 15th. The culprits were apprehended immediately after the Golden Ears Horel offence, the Kern's offence is still under investigation but likely will be solved, On Jan. 26th the body of Robert Ross JOHNSON of Richmond was found in the Mary Hill gravel pit. He had been shot Several times in what appears to be a drug related murder, Several suspects have surfaced and the case is under intensive investigation. The C.U.P.E. strike that commenced 23 January 1981 in Port Cecuitiam and on 30 January 1981 in Coquitlam District, has necessitated us utilizing several police personnel for radio room, complaint taking and Clerical duties. Much time has been spent involved with families and individuals _ (mainly juveniles) who are a Part of certain situations that are causing a great deal of strife for them at the moment. This seems to be so typical of this time of year, I do hope that my involve- ment with these people and in turn, my referrals to other helpful agencies may mean that these people do net get into any serious trouble with the law. January seems to be a month for threatening suicides and suicide attempts. The weather, Christmas, family and personal situations, employment, etc., are all a Part cf the reason why this occurs at this time of year. I have been involved with several incidents of this nature in this month. me and ask for assista their families, Even when I come in to work on Priday and Saturday evenings I am spending more and more time doing follow-up or interviews or counselling and this is good.
