Spirit of charity is gone Traditionally small com- munities, especially northem towns, have been generous sup- porters of charities such as the Kinsmen Mother’s March. But this year, both volunteer canvassers and donations were sadly down, according to Kins- men Rehabilitation Fund CEO Andy Danyliu, Last year the Terrace Mother’s March campaign raised $10,459. This year’s total for the campaign which ended January 31 is just $7,082. Terrace is not maintaining its tadition of generosity and con- cem for fellow human beings,’’ says Danyliu. In contrast, Cranbrook recorded a 200% increase over last year’s total. Because the volunteer canvas- sera weren't able to adequately cover all of Terrace, Danyliu thinks many residents may not have even been aware of the campaign. If you didn’t donate, you can Still send a cheque to: The Kins- men Rehabilitation Foundation, 2256 West 12th Ave,, Vancouver, B.C., V6K 41.2, Last year the Mother's March province-wide campaign raised just over one million dollars, 100% of which went to help the physically challenged of B.C. This year's total will be closer to $900,000, says Danyliu. But he claims more of that money will be spent money outside the lower mainland this year, adding anoth- er incentive for Terrace residents to pull out their chequebooks.
