[see the good old city is at it ‘again, with their inability to - know what to do first. _ -[—.am_-referring to the mess these ‘planners have made of most of the roads in the Terrace ‘area, | I like to think that the city Planners ] had got into Riverboat Days into a big way by creating wagon trails all over our fair ci- ty. Yes, we have the Halliwell Overlander’ Trail and the -Lazelle Wagon Express Way, both of which a wagon ‘could “not pass, [can understand the anger the residents of Halliwell must ‘feel with the way their street has _been- for several months, and fromwhat I understand more months to come, But what about. the merchants of the Lazelle. Ave. roadway? Have they been forgot, is it necessary to have one of our main roads paved.at this time of the year, tourist season? I have never seen such a money waster as the City of Terrace as far as doing a job and trying to get it done within the alloted time expected, I don't understand why the. city will start one job and go on to another -before the original Project started is completed. . What it looks like’to me, is that, start as many projects possible and make it look like something is being done for our tax dollars. Well, [ see the city Streets in worse shape than they were this winter. At least in the winter the tourists were not in the area to see just how ineffi- cient our public works people really are. I don’t want to point any fingers, but I see less and less being done and the taxes for the - municipality just keep climbing. I would like to mention, however, that the parks division has maintained our parks and recreation facilities with little effort and have done something we all can be proud of as far as making our little community look good to the tourist, It’s really too bad that the roads department can take away from this by leaving the streets | in such bad shape for so long. I have heard so many complaints Imelda had good ‘Dear Sir: . [Tam nota fan of Mrs Imelda Marcos, nor am J writing this to judge the sincerity or insincerity of her action following her ac- ’ quittal by a U.S. court — only she and her Maker can know that for sure, I would, however, like to comment on the article about her which appeared in Claudette Sandecki‘s Through Bifocais, July 18. If ‘The National made her trek down the aisle (of St. Patrick's Cathedral) look ef- fortlessly spontaneous’; and if Mrs. Marcos “can co-ordinate her movements (crawling on her knees) into one flawless execu- tion”, it is, in all probability, not because she practised in an- About that headline Dear Sir: I would like to comment on the title of my letter to the editor, Aug. 1, ‘Have no house, so will travel.’? What? I must admit we have been “(favelling =. all over trying to ‘find-a place to:iive, back ‘and . forth’ to the place where we're stored our belongings, etc. But, wherever did. anyone find in- dication that we ‘‘will travel’’? The main focus of my letter was to draw attention to the fact ‘that Terrace has a critical lack of rental accommodation. Is my husband expected to quit a good job, after struggling for years to establish seniority? from A5 Kuwait — to be balanced after the eight years of war with Iran. Iraq tried to send a signal to the Gulf states to not sell cheap oil and to control the price of oil, Traq had to borrow $20 billion from Kuwait and now they don’t want to pay it back as part of defending Kuwait from an Iranian inva- sion. ' Iraq tried to play the big boy, the body guard of the Gulf because if it doesn't, Iran will sweep the Gulf states in a matter of days. So Iraq is really interested in the strategic Bobian Island because it has a good front to control an Iranian invasion and an airport to secure southern fraq. ; Iraq’s only solution of not taking over the island is for. the Gulf states to pay Iraq the $80 billion to balance its debts. . 7 The USA and Israel might try to strike as they did to ° Libya but it is less likely. If Iraq controls the Bobian . Island it will aim again to other islands now held by Iran. Iraq will certainly. ask for them. because Iran is still weak and the Gulf states have . forgotten about the islands. ‘ 'T pray for peace to all ‘na- tions from all invasions. ~ Steve Ramzi. Whether as an act of contri- tion, thanksgiving, adoration or supplication, to pray on one’s knees while trekking down the aisle from a church's entrance to the altar is a very old and common religious practice in the Philippines particularly dur- ing the Lenten Season. And, though the Philippines is 4 poor country, there are big cathedrals too (though probably not as big as St. Patrick’s), some dating back to the time when the country was still a col- ony of Spain. .
