Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That each person in the public gallery wishing to address the Council in connection with the draft Regional Plan be permitted to do so for a maximum time of five minutes each. Carried. Alderman Traboulay voted against the resolution. A short presentation was made by the Regional District representatives and they advised that the draft plan was intended to be in conformity with the Agricultural Land Reserve. Alderman Ranger advised that he was in favour of an agricultural designation being applied to the Lougheed Highway, Dominion Avenue, Pitt River triangle and Alderman Mabbett generally agreed advising that he could see no cause for concern if the triangle should be designated agricultural. Alderman Keryluk advised of his Support for an agricultural designation being applied to the land in question. Alderman Wright inquired concerning a proposed ARDSA Development involving property north of the area and Mayor Laking advised that an Industrial designation would have no effect on that application. Mr. R.J. Dick, representing Lake City Industries Ltd., owner of property in the triangle in question, advised Council that his company had owned the property for thirty years and that while certain agricultural uses could be made of the property, or it could be sold for housing, his firm was definitely in favour of an industrial designation being applied to the land. A Mr. Kynoch commented thet the various large firms owning land in the area were permitting the same to become an eyesore in order that industrial development on the Property would be approved to accomplish an improvement in the appearance of the property. Mrs. K. Muldoon referred to a recent petition signed by some eighty persons that she had presented to a Public Hearing held by the Greater Vancouver Regional District asking that the triangle area be designated agricultural and presented several arguments in support of this view, including the fact that the area was now being actively farmed, and also that its conversion to industrial use would affect properties adjacent to it. Various other comments were received from members of the public in
