TO: Mayor & Aldermen August 2nd, AS AUG ~ 6 1973 FROM: Health & Welfare Committee Report for Information Over the past month, the liealth & Welfare Committee hag had discussions with the R.C.M.P. and with one Hotel Operator concerning the matter of underaged youth in beerparlours and/or lounges - as well as the question of whether these areas are frequented b: individuals pushing drugs. two liotels declined to send representatives to this meeting. Discussions held were most useful and it was agreed that the drug situa- tion was under active investination by the R.C.M.P. and that it was best left in their hands. The Hotel owner present pledged full support in this area. It was also agreed by all present, however, that a thrust to exclude 3 under-age youth from the beerparlour atmosphere would likely incur substantial benefits in at least one establishment, as well as assisting the R.C.M.P. in their efforts. A letter was sent to the two Operators not present, informing them of the results of the meeting, asking their support in this fresh thrust against underage patrons, and citing the Comaittee's resolve to see that improvement is in fact achieved. This report is presented te Council for their information ~- and to the public as a fair warning that if they have underage children they suspect are frequenting any such establishment, that it is in the best interests of the establishment, the City and most importantly, the youth, that they take action to keep them out. Alderman P.A. Meyer, and Alderman L.M. Traboulay.
