As we look back at 2001, no one would have expected to see the changes that would sweep through our community/region/province and, on Sept .11, 2001, the world. Liaisons to the Chamber are: Re- gional District, Andrew Webber; TEDA, Ken Veldman (who has since departed); City of Terrace, Val George; and new to our meetings will be Tony Reddy of Northwest Com- munity College. January Bobbie Phillips retires. Linda Bell steps into the manager’s position. * Ron McDonald, CEO of the Coun- cil of Forest Industries (COFI) spoke at our dinner meeting. - Letter of support for Terrace to be considered for the Forest Capital of BC for 2001 ‘ Letter of support for the 911 ser- vice being looked at by the Regional District. - Otto Grundmann was given an Honourary Membership in our Cham- ber * President Justin Rigsby was asked to sit on the Mayor’s Health Task Force February - Chamber Week - February 12 - 16, 2001 - HRDC spoke at our luncheon about the Summer Employment Pro- gram * A new phone system was put in the chamber - Chamber’s domain Website ad- dress was registered terracechamber.ca * Luncheon - Ron Farley, Vancou- ver Airport Society, spoke on the Van- couver Terminal : Visitor Information Centre Confer- ence - Linda Bell attended in Vancou- ver - CPAC - President J. Rigsby did an interview on Hawkair (plugged Shames) - Letter of support for a crossing at the tracks and to keep our residents safe March - Young Entrepreneurs Program at UNBC campus in Terrace - J. Rigsby spoke to a group of ifs students about what a chamber is and the part it plays - in the development of our community. - BCUC Hearing - Pres. J. Rigsby did a presentation at the hearing Multiculturalism Meeting - Linda Bell attend : Letter of concern was sent to ca- binet minister Paul Ramsey regarding the announcement of Alcan to reduce its production levels, which could have a widespread impact on the northwest economy. - Letter of support for a Terrace Winter Tourism Product Opportunities report done by the Terrace Economic Linda Bell Development Authority, (TEDA). - Pres. Justin Rigsby and executive member Betty Barton met with con- tractors and SCI about possible shut- down due to lack of cash flow. - Letter of support sent for Interfor - Luncheon - Gary Livingstone, CEO of the B.C. Mining Association - First Nations Summit - Best Western Inn, Manager Linda Beli as- sisted , April - Parks and Recreation - Board member K. Jeffery will be the cham- ber’s rep . + Ministry of Forests - thank you letter for supporting COFI - Hosted the 9th Annual Trade Show April 25-27. The counsellors are not only working with visitors but they also update our centres information and design new brochures.
