THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER 1 New facilities for crew praised by Local 1-85 The following letter and pictures were submitted by Local 1-85 IWA, in apprecia- tion for the new lunch room and wash room facilities in- stalled by MacMillan, Bloedel & Powell River at their Al- berni Pacific Division. “On behalf of all employ- ees, committee members and Local 1-85, we wish to ex- press Our appreciation to MacMillan Bloedel & Powell River company and manage- ment for making available a modern lunch room, wash ‘room and toilet facilities. The lunch room is 34 feet wide, 68 feet long — it has 1,770 square feet of lunch room space, plus 530 square feet of wash room and hallway facil- ities. There are 12 bench-set tables, 3 space heaters, full sprinklers for fire protection. The wash room has 5 toilets, 5 urinals and a 54” diameter wash fountain. All other lunch and smoke areas in the plant are still maintained to accommodate the employees. “In closing, may I once again say that the Officers and members of Local 1-85 very much appreciate the company’s efforts in provid- ing better facilities for their employees.” A. INGRAM, Business Agent, Local 1-85 IWA Macdonald wins again TORONTO (CPA) — The confidence of the delegates to the biennial Ontario New De- mocratic Convention held in Toronto was expressed once again by the unanimous elec- tion of Donald C. MacDonald as Leader. Mr. MacDonald said that this was his eighth consecutive unopposed elec- tion. Among other officers re- elected were George Cad- bury, President, and Jim Bury, Provincial Secretary. A newcomer to the execu- tive is Lewis Hanley as Trea- surer. Five vice-presidents elected were Carrol Coburn, of Wind- sor; Len Laventure, of Ren- frew South; Dr. John Magder and Ed Phillips, of Toronto; and Bill Scandlan, of Hamil- ton. Lorne Ingle and Morden Lazarus were elected to the Federal Council for the two- year term.
