tne final design of the Handley Crescent Pump Station was based on building new Sewage Pump Station beside the old pump station and based on providing underground detention surge chamber which would accomodate one half hour peak sewage flow. As shown on the attached correspondence, the total cost the installation of the Handley Crescent Pump Station is as follows: Supply of Materials $134 , 391.00 1990 Construction Costs 249,125.00 Engineering Costs 17,730.00 TOTAL COST $401, 246 .00 the main reasons for the substantially higher costs are: Additional emergency storage was included in the censtruction costs. It was determined that the bottom portion of the existing pump station may not last very long due to corrosion. Excessive dewatering and shoring costs related to the ground conditions. As an alternate, the City could consider installing a gravity sewer main from the existing Handley Crescent Pump Station to the Fremont Pump Station as described by Dayton & Knight in their letter of September 4, 1990. As the geotechnical information is not available for the proposed gravity sewer the estimated construction costs of $414,000.00 (plus engineering, plus dewatering costs) is a rough estimate at this point. There are several obvious advantages to having one pump station with good auxillary power rather than two pump stations based on emergency storage in case of power outage. Also, there would be a major saving in having only one pump station to maintain rather than two pump stations. “79 . oy cn IAG C “—™, . Lf pOE™ ON é ” I.R. Zahynacz, P. Eng.
