THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ¥, JUN 8 -. 1987 B. Kirk, DATE: June 04, 1987 City Administrator. Goce B. Brown J. Maitland, Freeman City Treasurer. Peters Taylor Computer Requirements. RECOMMENDATION: That we proceed with issuance of our request for proposal (RFP) for computer hardware and software requirements. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: In my report to Council which resulted in the retention of Stevenson Kellogg Ernst and Whinney (SKEW) to assist in the replacement of our existing mini- computer system I mentioned that I would report back to Council prior to issuance of the RFP. The RFP is now ready to go. Our new system will be significantly different from our present system ¢s the system is being designed to assist more tan just Treasury Department. Items to be included in the new system will include: ~ Recreation program registrations Parks and recreation facilities booking Building permits Building and fire inspections Geographic information system (property information) Computer aided drafting Treasury items Word processing for all departments We have $400,000 in our 1987 budget and as well have $100,000 in the Public Works section of our draft CIP for expansions of the system to include a computer aided drafting system. The RFP is designed so that each program and piece of equipment is individually priced and we will evaluate further whether the individual items cost can be justified once a price is known. It is expected that the RFP will result in a staged replacement and then expansion of our existing computer equipment. Expected cost if all items are acquired is in the $700,000 to $800,000 range and would be. staged over roughly a three year period. continued page 2.-:-
