HE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAN ( REPORT _ 0 U C - ) oe 7 OCT 34 197 Mayor and Council 7 October 26th, 1977 PROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held Monday, October 24th; 1977 .at 7:00 a.m, Lo, , IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman E.W. Mabbett Alderman M.A. Thompson V.G. Borch, P.Eng. Chester-Shaughnessy Intersection . The Committee has been requested to look at the traffic problems at the Shaughnessy~Chester intersection. It has been pointed out that some Northbound traffic on Chester entering Shaughnessy is executing dangerous U-turns at Fraser Avenue and it is further pointed out that some Northbound traffic on Shaughnessy entering Chester Street is “inhibiting through Northbound traffic on Shaughnessy Street. Various suggestions have been received such as making Chester Street one-way Southbound, making Chester Street one~way Northbound, and closing Chester altogether at Shaughnessy street. A large delegation of businessmen from the Coquitlam -Avenue, Flint Street and Lougheed Highway area, has discussed the above proposal on one occasion with the City Engineer and on another occasion with the Public Works Committee. This delegation strongly opposes any change “to the present arrangement because the businessmen feel it would ad- versely affect their businesses which are already suffering ,due to the _Lougheed Highway improvements. The Committee recommends that this situation: be monitored during the next six months and that a further report to Council be made in May 1978. Respectf£ylly submitted, . o V.G. Borch, City Engineer
