Dear Mayor and Members of Council: I wish to acknowledge receipt of a letter from your City Clerk, dated September 25th, in which we were advised of your Council's resolution concerning remarks attributed to myself and Alderman Volrich of Vancouver. I would like to point out two specific matters with which you may not be familiar. Both the printed Convention Programme and the printed Banquet Menu stated that preceding the introduction of the Guest Speaker, the Honourable David Barrett, there would be an item titled "Remarks ~ President-Elect, UBCM". I make this point that I did not introduce the Premier at the banquet, this task fell to Mayor Kay Grouhel. My parti- cipation in the evening's programme was that usually accorded to a newly— elected U.B.C.M. President to give him or her the opportunity to address the delegates following election. I believe that my remarks were simply a reflection of the ‘feelings and tone of the conference as expressed by delegates in the earlier business sessions, and if the Port Coquitlam delegates had listened closely to my remarks, they would agree that they were not disgraceful, they were not disrespectful, and they were given in the same manner and with the same
