‘30! ~ 615 Colborne Street New Wostminstor, B.C, April 18, 1974 Mayor J.M. Campbel! City Hall 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitiam, 8.C. Dear Mayor Campbell; Would the City of Port Coquitlam please consider requesting from the Greater Vancouver Regional District an additional allotment of the B.C. Government's Student Temporary Employment Program "STEP '74" to staff a Musle Education Workshop. The Music Education Workshop in the summer of 1973 was a highly successful project funded by Opportunities For Youth. !t employed nineteen Douglas College students and attracted 375 school students to attend. The program for this summer offers instruction in music theory, music appreciation, surveys of various periods of music ( classical, baroque, twentieth century, jazz, etc.) sight singing, ear-training, classical guitar, folk quitar, jazz guitar, beginning band, concert bands, stage bands, large cherus, chamber choir, folk choir, and small ensembles. The project would run from May 13, 1974 to August 31, 1974. The first workshop is to be held in Surrey, July 2, 1974 to July 26, 1974, The second workshop is to be held in Delta, July 29, 1974 to August 23, 1974. Presently, we think some funding will be available from Opportunities For Youth, However, due to anticipated Increased enrollment and to desired eypansion of the programm, we fee! that additional funding is necessary. My understanding is that the Greater Vancouver Regional District has been assigned 517 positions. There is a possibility that the member municipalittes of the GYRD may not utilize all of the 517 positions. Should this be the situation, GVRD may decide to allocate additional positions to those communities who anply. . Our request to you is for twenty positions costing $34,531.28. This figure : includes $4,504.08 for administrative costs ( 15% of salary costs). Enclosed is an "Application For Funding - STEP '74" which gives a further breakdown, Thank you for your consideration. Yours sincerely, Howard Mar 301 ~ 615 Colborne Street New Westminster, BC 22 Apr} 1974 Mayor J.M.
