Ray Warner. Vancouver’ Ss Marathon — Big members of the Skeena Valley runners club are preparing this week to run in the 1984 Nike Van- couver International marathon on Sunday May 6th. The runners met over the weekend to discuss pre- race strategies and to make plans for the trip. The group ranged from competitors with five or six marathons under their beltg to those juggling their doubts prior to their first marathon. ; This years marathon is being run on a new course. The run will start and end at B.C. Place. Maps have been sent to the entrants to familiarize them with the new course. These maps prompted - discussions «on. hills to watch for and the -. differences in the course from last year. All of the runners dif- fered in their training patterns for the week prior to the race. Ron Allen had the next fastest time at 2hrs, 48 mins., and Neil Fleisch- man finished at 2hrs. 52 min. Sue Walker finished 32th overall among the women runners with a time of 2hrs. 59 min. Wheelchair athlete Paul Clark is one of the veteran competitors. Clark is the only carded athlete, of the group), He -id!: eurrelitly. ranked second in the world in the 1500 meters. Clark is also the holder of two Canadian records in wheelchair competition.
