Aug. 25, 1976 _ Reid will play Nellie _ John Hirsch, head of CBC- TV drama, has announced - that the internationally- acclaimed Canadian actress Kate Reid will play the title role in the CBC-TV drama production, Nellie McClung. “Tam very pleased,” said Hirsch, “that Ms, Reid, an ‘actress of enormous talent and sensitivity, is now available to play the Canadian suffragette Nellie McClung, and that production of this original television drama can go ACTRA refused to grant a work permit to the American actress Kathleen Widdoes. Ms. Widdoes had . been selected for the lead because no _ suitable Canadian actress was available when the drama was originally scheduled for production this summer. Ms. Reid scored a triumph at the Shaw Festival this summer in Mrs. Warren’s Profession. Writing in The Globe and Mail, drama critic John Fraser said Broadway in the ANTA production of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Her earlier Broadway performances in Dylan and .
