In such a project those attending the dis- cussions and the march gained a great deal, from the broad dis- cuSsion and exchange of views. Of course with the big mon- Opolies in firm control of the press, the radio, and T.V. the general public got no indication of the positive and constructive nature of the discussions in view of such restriction on the spread of information, It is not much wonder that many people become apathic, However the situation is such that People must get adequate information so as to be able to understand what is really hap- bening in such places as Viet- Nam, They must also learn to Organize themselves in such a way as to compel the federal S0vernment to abandon its cow- ardly and spineless support of American aggression and develop €nough courage to follow an intelligent and morally defensible Policy, Canada’s present policy is not a4 morally defensible one since it Supports the illegal and un- Justified interference of America in the internal affairs of Vietnam. Moreover, American policy.can- hot be successful regardless of American military and financial power, This has already been dem- onstrated by their failure to es- tablish control over the Vietnam Countryside in spite of an armed force which has now risen to Some 1,300,000 and the use of every type of destructive weapon except nuclear bombs, It is also shown by their failure to maintain a viable South Viet- namese government, Much as Stalingrad turned the balance in World War Iland began the final process of attrition and destruction of the Naziarmy, So too will the defeat of the American war hawks now leadus Closer to the shining goal of world peace, Writes Pearson : Following the March26 “Peace i Vietnam”? demonstrations, the following letter was sent to Prime Minister Pearson by Mrs, Anne Royle of Nanaimo, B.C. I wish to protest most vigor- Ously to an extract of your speech which is enclosed herewith, (Vancouver Sun, April 2nd), Quote — «It has become a kind of parlor sport to criticize the U.S, People carry placards which are not very complimentary to the U.s,” I emphatically wish to point Out, that when I join a protest demonstration, I am in deadly €arnest. -and not indulging in “parlor games,” The United States can hardly expect to be complimented for indulging ina brutal, unnecessary and waste- ful war against the Vietnamese People, : Furthermore, we the little peo- ple are obliged to take to the streets to make our voices heard in protest, as it is apparent that the present Government of Can- ada, will not, or is afraid to make a clear statement con- demning the action of the U.S. Even the American people themselves are now very clearly showing their detestation of this war, and the voice of world opinion denounces this act of aggression, In the light of all this evidence it is beyond belief that our own Prime Minister would brush off this opinion as ‘¢parlor games.” I think it is high time that the Canadian Government made a firm policy statement con- cerning tlie actions of the U.S. Government. As members of the Truce Commission, we should be taking a firm stand on recon- vening the Geneva Convention, and refusing in any way, by trade, arms or military support to assist in prolonging this war one day longer than necessary. I am sending a copy of this letter to all leading members of the Opposition Parties, and as many of the national papers as I think fit, for their comments, Time is running short Mr. Pearson and it is sad that you should so belittle the people who are aware of the ‘threat of a nuclear holocaust, OAS H.J, Hansen, Vancouver, writes: The attempt to have Canada involved inthe Dominican Republic has failed for the time being. Paul Martin’s attempt to involve us, as quoted in his éwe must join the O.A.S.” without any reasons being given for doing sO, I challenge Martin to give any good reasons for doing so, In- terfering in the internal affairs or another country can only have serious consequences for those interfering. Are we Canadians to be used to physically maintain rotten cor- rupt “governments” propped up by the U.S. monopoly in Latin America under the cloak of anti- Communism? Uncle Psalm’s genocide To journey to earth’s other side. To engage in cruel genocide Is a horrible deed that few ean abide Who retain a shred of com- passion, ‘ For the crime of Vietnam We must blame Uncle Psalm And his moronic airmen who seatter napalm In such diabolical fashion.
