Le vendredi aprés-midi,
Le Vent monté un petit
spectacle pour les étudiants
de l’Ecole Roosevelt. Le
moment magique pour les
éléves est quand Réjean,
du Vent, leur a montré
comment jouer du tambour
avec les pieds pour quelques
chansons!

Et oul, vendredi soir,

Le Vent du Nord a monté
un spectacle pour Prince
Rupert au centre Lester.

Avec les bénévoles, plus
de 150 personnes ont par-
ticipé a cette soirée.

Immersion (kindergarten and
Grade 1).

Yes, you read that right: in
a town of only 6,000, there is a
Waiting list.

And yet, the Bulkley
Valley School Board will not
add French Immersion to the
secondary school curriculum
... because they say that those
students can take the DELF
test.

We conducted an interview
with the national DELF centre
(see story on page 4) and it
was pointed out how DELF
is there as an enrichment for
French Immersion students, or
at least, it gives the students an
idea of their French level.

Also, if a student wishes to
pursue employment in Europe
(in France, for example), you
bet, they require that DELF
certificate. Our source also
said that having both French
Immersion and DELF together

work best.

In November 2015, Radio
Canada (French CBC) ran a
story about the controversy
between French Immersion and
DELF, and Sophie Bergeron,
Coordinator for the DELF
School Centre in B.C. said:
“DELF is not meant to replace
courses, it is there to validate
the program.”

So you see that even those
directly associated with
DELF are saying that it can’t
replace the French Immersion
program.

Absolutely not! And
studies have shown that the
students who remain in French
Immersion have the best
chance of finding success with
DELF!

Finally, every School Board
in B.C. receives funding for
French language education
every year, and that is also
based on FTE numbers. So if a
school board eliminates French
Immersion, their funding
decreases.
