SUBJECT: National Access Awareness \Veek - June 4-10, 1989

Recommendation

That the following recommendations as discussed in the

attached report be approved.

1) The Mayor proclaim June 4-10, 1989 National Access
Awareness Week in Port Coquitlam.

2) A newspaper article be prepared discussing National
Access Awareness Week and our Leisure Buddy program.

3) The Mayor tour City Hall, with the media, to
demonstrate the present accessibility features.

4) <A display be prepared by PoCo Parks and Recreation to
be located at Hyde Creek outlining the resources
available to those with disabilities, in the area of
recreation.

5) A banner announcing the week be prepared for the
underpass.

Background & Comments

The Committee for Persons with Special Needs, at their last meeting,
discussed the attached report on National Access Awareness eek. The
Committee supported the aforementioned recommendations and is looking
forward to seeing the event grow in Port Coquitlam in years to come.
