THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM Public Works Committee Page 2 December 22nd, 1978 ITEM II (continued) and that these buses interchange with two buses which stop on McAllister in each direction. It is possible to reschedule the three buses on Shaughnessy so that only two at any time would be occupying the bus stops und this will be done as a result of Council cutting back the stops from three to two bus lengths each. One of three buses in each direction on Shaughnessy is required to make up time at this location. The second attached sketch shows the reason for this. The sketch shows that the Austin bus becomes the Prairie bus after stopping on Shaughnessy north of McAllister and that the Coast Meridian bus becomes the Austin bus after stopping on Shaughnessy on the south side of McAllister. The lay-overs allow the second half of the schedules to start on time. By organizing the routes in this way, B.C. Hydro is able to gain several advantages. a. If the routes were to terminate at these locations, it would be necessary to turn the buses around by circulating through the downtown streets which are not adequate for this maneuver. The organization of the routes in this manner saves at least one bus which would cost about $60,000 per year to operate. It is eesier for passengers to make inter-connections between buses when some of the buses have a lay-over. The Committee recommends that B.C. Hydro be allowed to continue the use of this intersection as a bus interchange and that lay-over of the two buses be continued. The Committee felt that since the bus zone would not be available for parking in any case, the length of the time of the lay-over of the buses was not critical. A number of peop? complained about the removal of the Lougheed Fastbus, its replacement: with buses which travelled a circuitous route to the Lougheed Mail at an additional time of 20 - 40 minutes. Some of the letters requested service on Pitt River Road. Continued on Page 3 ...seeeseae
