Phone: 942-0264 MARY HILL ELEMENTARY SRHOOL SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 43 (COQUITLAM) OFFICE OF THE PRINCIPAL 1&90 Humber Crescent PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. June 25, 1975 Mr. R. Freeman, City Clerk, City of Port Coquitlam. Dear Sir, . At a meeting held at the Port Coquitlam Recreation Center on June 2% between representatives of the Recreation Department and Port Cosiitiam School principais, Miss Taylor announced that the Robert Hope Swi: um Pool would not be open for use before duly 1, 1976. If this ie .-. ‘act policy for next year, we feel that the swim instructional program >: vas been offered to the students of Central Elementary, Kilmer Elementas«. Hazel Trembath Blementary and Mary IN21 Elementary this year and for tie past number of years could not continue. . . Ag you are no doubt avare, our present progran provides for ten cne-helf hows of swim instruction to every student in our schools excluding those in Kindergarten and Grade 7. We feol the program has been excellent and has provided our students with the required basic svinning siclils. Our pirents have enthusiastically supported the program. _ Lf Robert Hepe Pool was closed until July 1, ow: program would prohsbly be discontinued as transportation to the new pool near George Pearkes Junior Secondary would be too difficult to arrange and too costly, the amount of time available at the new pool would not be sufficient to accommodate all our students and the amount of classroom instructional time allocated to the program could not be justified. Robert Hope Pool is within walking distance af all four elementary schools and is used exclusively by ovr students during the school day for six weeks. We ask that consideration be given to malcing Robert Hope Pool available to our students during the 1975-76 school year and in future © years for a six week period near the end of the school year so that our swim program may continue. : A gies 7 Aen eds Ae RaZ nA
