NEW VIEW SOCIETY c/o 2266 Wilson Avenue Port Coquitlam, B. Cc. V3C 125 Mayor J. Campbell Municipal Hall 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitlam, B. C. Dear Sir: The New View Society has now set up an activities program for mentally and physically handicapped people in the community which will offer work _ projects, crafts, recreation and social opportunities not available to these people because they are unable to use the usual community oppor tuni-~ ‘ties. We have hired 3 people to supervise this centre and they are starting this week to set it up. We have already found 20 clients to begin. . We would like to apply for use of your newly acquired premises, (the Schinz property on Wilson Avenue ) for the use as accommodat<.on for this “centre. We are interested in the proposal of establishing a small tree farm and a greenhouse on the grounds of the premises and have discussed with the executive of the New Westminster B. C. Association for Retarded Crildren the possibility of jointly providing a labor pool to run such a farm. We also plan to approach the Polyskills Society at Riverview Hospital who are organi- zing occupational therapy for patients there, to see if some of their patients would Like to work on such a project. . This is the kind. of employment our clients could cope with and enjoy and it would be a way for them to augment their meager income. We are asking that the City of Port Coquitlam give us a 5 year lease rent free or with only a token rent as we feel that this centre will be offering a definite service to the community. We have $1,000 grant from the United Good Neighbors to put towards any renovations needed in the house. bal S. G. Little M. D. CHAIRMAN
